Sialendoscopy Symposium 2023

Course Overview

Sialendoscopy, a minimally invasive and gland-sparing procedure, has transformed the management of obstructive salivary gland disease. Using miniaturized endoscopes allows the concurrent diagnosis and management of obstructive salivary duct pathology, thereby effectively and safely treating clinical symptoms and preserving gland function.  

This intensive course is designed to cover the spectrum obstructive salivary gland pathology amenable to diagnosis and intervention with sialendoscopy and sialendoscopy assisted approaches. Participants will receive the latest information on sialendoscopy, including indications, instrumentation, basic and advanced techniques, evidence-based outcomes and future directions. Areas of focus will include office-based sialendoscopy and salivary gland ultrasound. Participants enrolling for the hands-on dissection course will develop skills to perform sialendoscopy and salivary gland focused diagnostic and interventional ultrasonography. 

Our course faculty features nationally and internationally recognized experts in the field of salivary gland disease and gland-sparing surgery. Short format lectures, case-based panel discussions and Q&A sessions will be used to assist our learners understand the fundamentals of sialendoscopy and salivary gland ultrasound, incorporate sialendoscopy and ultrasound into their practice, or enhance an existing practice.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to: 

• Perform a work-up on a patient with obstructive salivary gland disease. 

• Understand normal sonographic appearance of salivary glands and relevant anatomic landmarks. 

• Discuss treatment options for patients with obstructive salivary gland disease.  

• Explain the indications for sialendoscopy.   

• Apply basic and advanced sialendoscopy techniques.   

• Apply ultrasound as a diagnostic and interventional tool for managing salivary gland disease. 

• Review the outcomes and complications of sialendoscopy.
