Women's Health and Menopause

Course Overview

Women’s Health and Menopause is designed by a multidisciplinary team of experts at Harvard and Nationally as a comprehensive course in women’s health and menopause care. This five-day conference, which is available in person or live streaming, addresses the need for comprehensive midlife women’s health and menopause, evidence-based knowledge which integrates hormonal changes throughout the lifespan with a broad range of health topics. Sessions will address the perimenopausal/menopausal transition, hormonal and non-hormonal menopausal treatments, the use of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone treatments in women, lifestyle medicine, women’s cardiology, sexual health, and much more.  

Our goal is to enhance your professional expertise in the comprehensive care of women, and the treatment of menopause. This course will improve your confidence and competence as a women’s health provider or clinician caring for women and guide you to improved clinical strategies. The faculty has been selected from the most experienced clinical educators of Harvard Medical School and its affiliated hospitals with nationally and internationally recognized guest faculty. In addition to our in person learning option, our virtual learning technical support team will provide the best images and sound quality possible. Presentations are focused, lively, and many are case based. We are fully dedicated to the joy of learning new knowledge to improve your patient care. All lectures and materials will be available online for viewing for 11 months after the conclusion of the course.  

The format for Women’s health and menopause course consists of morning and afternoon lecture sessions. Each lecture is 45 minutes in length with the last 10 minutes for a supervised question and answer session. In addition, speakers are available at the conclusion of each session for additional specific questions via email (email addresses are provided for most speakers).

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Recognize an overview of a woman’s lifespan and hormonal phases.

• Discuss new and innovative skills in clinical reasoning and problem solving around menopausal symptoms. 

• Develop the knowledge required to consider prescribing hormone therapies in women including estrogen, progesterone and testosterone as indicated.  

• Broaden understanding of perimenopause and its management.

• Demonstrate a knowledge of weight gain in menopause and the treatment of obesity.

• Describe the safety and risks of menopausal hormone therapy.

• Delineate alternatives to hormone therapy for symptoms of menopause.

• Demonstrate an understanding of Lifestyle Medicine and healthy lifestyle choices/practices including nutrition, exercise, and sleep.

• Describe factors related to the diagnosis and treatment of sexual health in women including pelvic PT, topical and systemic hormone use, and counseling.  

• Describe inclusive LGBTQ issues relevant to the health of all women.

• Discuss the expected results of therapies and summarize current treatment strategies for cardiovascular, diabetic, bone health, contraceptive, dermatologic, gastrointestinal, metabolic, psychiatric, and menopause / midlife related women’s health conditions.
