Topics in Gastrointestinal Oncology

This course is designed to give medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, gastroenterologists, primary care physicians, nurses, and other interested clinicians updated information regarding the management of gastrointestinal cancers. Specialists from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and partner institutions will discuss specifically those topics outlined on the agenda for 2025.   

Registrants will be encouraged to present their own problem cases for discussion by the clinician panel and are encouraged to bring case materials including scans and other diagnostic information. Engaging learning formats such as: ask the expert, Q&A, case-based discussions and didactic lectures will be incorporated to allow the learners the opportunity to interact with the faculty. The course is designed to change learner competence.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Evaluate new surgical approaches for gastrointestinal malignancies and apply these procedures in routine clinical practice. 
• Assess new management and treatment options for pancreatic, biliary and neuroendocrine tumors, and utilize these approaches in routine clinical practice to benefit patients. 
• Appraise targeted therapy options for patients with colorectal cancer. 
• Evaluate the role of inherited genetics through case studies and outline how to interpret and use genomics in clinical practice. 
• Appraise and evaluate emerging approaches to radiation therapy in gastrointestinal malignancies. 
• Interpolate and discuss the management of gastrointestinal cancers across a multidisciplinary treatment team including advanced practice providers.
