The opioid epidemic, in particular, has fueled devastating consequences, including skyrocketing overdose deaths. Addiction impacts nearly every facet of life—it contributes to numerous health problems, fractures families and relationships, and leaves individuals isolated, depressed, and at heightened risk of suicide. The bidirectional relationship between addiction and comorbid disorders further complicates treatment, as each condition can exacerbate the other.

Compounding these challenges, individuals with addiction often minimize or deny the severity of their struggles, resisting treatment. Yet, every year, countless Americans overcome addiction with the support of healthcare professionals and evidence-based interventions.

McLean Hospital, the largest psychiatric hospital of Harvard Medical School, is proud to present this annual conference, which brings together leading experts in the addiction field. This comprehensive program will highlight the latest evidence-based treatments, strategies for addressing the complexities of comorbid disorders, and approaches for working with special populations.

Participants will also benefit from smaller, interactive breakout sessions each afternoon, designed to deepen understanding and enhance practical skills in an engaging format. Join us for an invaluable opportunity to learn from and collaborate with a distinguished and accomplished faculty in advancing the care and outcomes for individuals facing addiction.

Please contact the Continuing Education Programs with any questions by email at learn@hms.harvard.edu.

September 19, 2025 to September 20, 2025

Learn More

39th Annual Evaluation and Treatment of Pain Conference

39th Annual Evaluation and Treatment of Pain Conference
Live Virtual and In Person
denyse_allen@h… Thu, 11/04/2021 - 11:21

Live Virtual and In Person

A significant amount of research has indicated that many, if not all, types of pain are undertreated. Some data indicate that only 25% of patients treated for pain receive adequate relief. In addition, several studies have shown that various pain-relieving techniques may be used inappropriately, which can result in patient harm. “Evaluating and Treating Pain" is a live course held each spring in Boston. It provides a comprehensive review and update of the basic science and advances in the field of pain medicine.

The faculty includes specialists in many aspects of pain medicine including anesthesiology, neurology, psychiatry and psychology, internal medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, orthopedic surgery, interventional radiology, and neurosurgery. Participants learn how to diagnose common pain problems and explore various options for treatment of chronic pain, acute pain and cancer-related pain. Pharmacologic, behavioral and interventional treatments of pain will be discussed. Ample time will be spent addressing the role of opioids in the management of pain.

Please contact the Continuing Education Programs with any questions by email at learn@hms.harvard.edu.

June 23, 2025 to June 27, 2025

Learn More

Mass General Brigham BWH/MGH Combined Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery Primary Care Orthopaedics

Mass General Brigham BWH/MGH Combined Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery Primary Care Orthopaedics
Live Virtual
denyse_allen@h… Tue, 11/02/2021 - 11:55

Live Virtual

It has been estimated that one-third of symptoms reported to primary care providers are musculoskeletal in nature. The vast majority of musculoskeletal disease is evaluated by a primary care, urgent care, or occupational health provider before patients are ever seen by a specialist. The goal of this course is to address the outpatient care of common musculoskeletal problems by primary care providers. The diagnosis and non-surgical management of musculoskeletal disorders will be covered in lectures, case discussions, and video demonstrations of examination and injection techniques. In addition, optional workshops in splinting and casting and interpretation of radiological studies will be available to participants. The course is hosted by the Mass General Brigham Orthopaedic specialists. The course learner objectives are to:

Discuss the relationship between the anatomy and injury of specific anatomical areas.

Describe initial management of many orthopedic problems, both acute and chronic.

Be more familiar with how to conduct and interpret musculoskeletal physical examinations.

Any health provider that provides first line care of musculoskeletal problems including internal medicine doctors, family practitioners, nurse practitioners, occupational medical specialists, physiatrists, and providers that work in emergency or urgent care settings. This course would be useful to this subset of health providers worldwide as well.

Please contact the Continuing Education Programs with any questions by email at learn@hms.harvard.edu.

April 10, 2025 to April 11, 2025

Learn More
