Management of Pancreatic Disorders for the Practicing Clinician

This program aims to provide current state of the art education on the diagnosis and management for pancreatic disorders for clinical providers. The program will focus on the multidisciplinary care including medical management and interventional and surgical approaches to treatment. We will engage physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and registered dietitians as part of our faculty planning committee. Pancreatic diseases require multidisciplinary care and we would like to ensure that all lectures are informative for all physician and non-physician attendees. Care of pancreatic patients is varied based on provider experience and level of comfort. Our goal in this course, is to provide evidence-based recommendations along with practical clinical care pearls so that all providers improve the quality of care provided to patients with pancreatic disorders. 

The following topics will be covered: acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cysts, and autoimmune and hereditary pancreatitis.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Discuss management of acute pancreatitis based on randomized clinical trial results.
• Discuss the available data on the natural history of pancreatic cysts and to learn about management appropriate to the risk of malignancy.
• Apply the best evidence-based management of uncommon conditions such as pancreas divisum, pancreatitis in pregnant women, and autoimmune pancreatitis.
• Identify the management of autoimmune pancreatitis based on evidence from observational studies and the experience of centers with a high volume of patients with this disease.
