The Gastrointestinal Pathology course, presented by Harvard Medical School faculty and renowned guest faculty, aims to foster active learning among academic and community practice pathologists. It focuses on updating participants with the latest advances in gastrointestinal, pancreatic, and hepatobiliary pathology, including updates from the WHO blue books and the version 9 of the AJCC cancer staging system. While the course will focus on hematoxylin and eosin-stained slide, diagnostically and therapeutically relevant areas of molecular pathology, immunology, and machine learning will also be addressed. The course incorporates interactive learning formats, such as didactic lectures, slide seminars, frequent discussion periods, and interactive microscopy with renowned faculty. These formats encourage active participation, enabling learners to engage, share insights, and ask questions. The course allocates ample time for one-on-one contact with faculty, providing personalized guidance and feedback. The course will assist learners in formulating new strategies for their practice, ultimately leading to improved diagnostic accuracy and patient care.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Evaluate gastrointestinal, pancreatic, and hepatobiliary cancers using up-to-date grading and staging guidelines. 
• Evaluate complex gastrointestinal neoplasms with a better understanding of the relevant histologic features of those lesions and the techniques that add value to their assessment. 
• Evaluate inflammatory pathology of the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas and liver with a better understanding to generate a differential diagnosis and communicate effectively with treating physicians.
